"I Hate My Job" He Said eBook Dr Lynn Johnson Reviews
I am a good friend and colleague of Dr. Johnson. He is able to put together excellent concepts in an understandable and useable format. Anyone who is struggling in a job they don't like will find helpful tips and techniques. Thanks Dr. Johnson for your insight!
The simple suggestions really make a difference in how I feel about life and my job. This book is a great resource.
I've hated my job for a while, and could really relate to the examples of bad bosses, so it was good to hear that even in a really bad job, there's hope for happiness. I've tried some of the tactics mentioned in this book and have been really happy with the results. I would recommend this to anyone.
You can read this in about a half hour. Dr. Johnson distills down a number of strategies which have been shown to improve peoples' levels of happiness, satisfaction and well-being. Whether you find yourself struggling with satisfaction at work, or if you are interested in improving your sense of general happiness, this book is both easy to get through quickly and full of useful and practical strategies. Also, I think you will find his ideas quite easy to integrate into your life. I recommend it and, as a practicing clinician, will be recommending it to my clients as well.
Aa a psychologist, I have avoided the positive psychology movement and research for a long time thinking it was just fluff. I figured it was something telling us to think positive instead of exploring our negative emotions. I have experienced in myself as a client and for most of my own clients the benefits of exploring and having validated by others our emotions of anger, sadness, fear ,etc. Hearing someone say "smile" or "just be happy" felt like an annoying prescription to avoid those emotions that we had been told to avoid for a lifetime. Once I attended your conference on positive psychology I realized that there is research showing how your techniques actually do make people happier. For someone like myself, I think it would help to touch on these matters early in your book, before you put off readers who think like I did. I believe you do address these issues in your happiness book, if I remember correctly. "I hate my job, he said" is a wonderful condensation of the principles you elaborate on elsewhere. I think adding a paragraph that addresses doubts like those I had might help clarify your points. Thank you so much for your efforts helping people enjoy better lives!
"I hate my job, he said" is simple, fun, clear, and light... yet meaningful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was also delighted that it took just a short while to read the book and have something to take away, rather than reading a 200 page tome.
There are so many great ideas in here for a person who is struggling at work. As someone who has lived the "hate", so many things resonated with me.
"I hate my job" is full of scientifically valid, simple to implement ideas to boost morale and lead to a better life.
But don't take my word for it... try it and see for yourself.
I just got done reading this book for the second time and I am finding it very helpful. I am not an employee but a business owner and I find myself getting seriously grumpy at times, sometimes even feeling depressed. Lynn's book helps me to focus on what is positive about my life. I have started the gratitude diary that he talks about and it is a great tool for focusing my mind about what works in my life. "The Blessing's In Disguise" diary is next and I am looking forward to doing that as well. Great book all around.
I like the fact that Lynn talks about diet. I have noticed that sometimes I start feeling low and tired late in the day. If I drink a glass of water or two it tends to perk me right up. Sometimes dramatically so. I believe I tend to get dehydrated and it makes me feel depressed. Water is a big boost to me. I think many people may find some dietary solution, no matter how small, to help them with their mood and life (I suppose I COULD stop drinking coffee, but I am not going to do that anytime some.)
